Need assistance with Windows keys?
Hello forum, I'm trying some fixes for my brother's PC that was running Windows 7. We decided to switch to Windows 10, but we ran into problems launching the setup. Everything got lost on a USB drive, and now only Windows 10 is installed. The big issue is that it isn't activated. I have a product key but lost it, and I don't want to pay for a fake one or buy something too expensive. Can anyone help me get the key back?
Ensure you possess a valid legal key. Access the Microsoft site, and locate the key linked to your registered devices. If not found, begin organizing your belongings—there might be a lost key among them.
Do you possess the Windows 7 activation from the initial computer, or did you misplace it? If you have it, you can substitute it for a 10-key code.
Sadly, the only choices are either buy a Windows 10 Home key from Microsoft or try unofficial methods to activate for free, which I won’t elaborate on since that’s likely against the rules here. You might have to pay them.
No such concept exists as a "cheap non-legit key." Keys are either genuine or invalid. Using an OEM key won’t cause any damage. Disclaimer: I have no connection with HRK, but I rely on them regularly without problems. https://www.hrkgame.com/games/product/wi...pc-cd-key/
Consider trying the Win7 key as well. There are reports that Win10 activates with those, and I’ve used it recently myself. Make sure the 7 and 10 match in type, like both Pro versions. If needed, there’s a generic key that can convert Win10 Home to Pro, but it only changes the version type—it doesn’t actually activate it.
You can take your time speaking with MS customer support. You may need an invoice from the place where you obtained your license. Don’t inform them you’ve lost the key, just mention that your OEM label’s key doesn’t work. If you say you lost the key, there’s a 50% chance they won’t assist you. I’m referring to that because their staff isn’t well-trained. If they request the key from the label, tell them it’s worn—difficult to read—and just generate random numbers and letters. They’re not rude, but they follow guidelines; you just need to complete the required steps for them to help.
