I gathered these components for a system refresh. Before dismantling everything, I reached out for guidance. My existing configuration is an Aorus b450 pro wifi MOBO with a Ryzen 9 5900x processor. Upgrading to the new CPU caused a boot error because the BIOS was outdated. After installing the latest BIOS and the new CPU, everything functioned perfectly. Now I’m moving to a Ryzen 9 9900x, which needs a different motherboard. The B650 Elite MOBO supports AM5 sockets, so I purchased that. I also added four 16GB DDR5 RAM sticks. My concern is whether I’ll encounter boot issues. Should I revert to my previous setup before fully replacing it? I’d appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Make sure the board you choose includes a bios flashback function.

Most b450 models need a BIOS upgrade. The b650s are already equipped with the processor you're using, so no additional CPU is required for the update. The only error I noticed is that for 64GB of RAM, four sticks were used instead of two 32GB sticks.

Are you saying that your previous configuration used two 32GB drives and you felt forced, but switching to four 16GB drives would have been preferable?

2x32 can assist you when you decide to add two more sticks and reach 128 GB.
Each decision comes with its advantages and disadvantages.
If you don't experience it yourself, you won't grasp it.
I have a computer with a 5900x and F4-3600C14D-32GVK (2x16) listed below in my signature.
Later on, I also have one with a 5700x and F4-3200C15D-16GVK (4x8GB).
I'm very pleased to invest more time with the second option, no matter if the first one is stronger because of the processor, the second one is remarkably fast.

It might be possible to find B650 boards without the necessary bios revision for a 9900x. A bios update is probably required.

If you wear a bios before Aug 14, 2024 (which can be a bit tricky), then yes, you might need it.
