I've been using this motherboard and CPU for several years now. The 2600x is starting to show its age, so I was considering upgrading to an R5 5600x. While browsing Gigabyte's site, I noticed I needed to install BIOS update F60 to work with the 5600x. The F40 version requires installing F31 before F40. There was a note about updating the AMD chipset driver to a newer version before applying this BIOS. I searched the site but couldn't find the driver, so I installed the latest one (3.08.06.148).
I attempted to update the BIOS step by step, skipping certain versions. The Q-flash reported success, but after rebooting, the system froze at the BIOS/Aorus logo screen with no keyboard input. The red CPU indicator lit up. My GPU also displayed video output. I found a suggestion to restore a backup BIOS by holding Power and Reset for 10-15 seconds, which reset it back to the original BIOS.
This experience was frustrating. After several tries without resolution, I decided to skip the update process and look into purchasing a new motherboard that supports the 5600x.
If you e got a viable bios update system like flashback you should be able to throw any bios in it you want via USB, so I don’t think it’s bricked. It’s possible your download of what ever update keeps horking is problematic though. I might consider downloading a fresh instance of it.
I believe this motherboard doesn’t have flashback protection, so flashing the BIOS via USB shouldn’t be possible. I felt the same about the download, so I re-downloaded the BIOS version again but it still didn’t work. Another point: when you short the CLR_CMOS pins, should you do it with the battery off or on the board? I’m also considering reseating the CPU later today.
Disconnecting the CMOS pins and taking out the battery both help reset it. Shorting the pins and removing power seems to work too, even if I'm not sure about the pin method. I've always liked the idea of unplugging the device and waiting a while. It's like giving it a strong reset from space.
It should have been reinitialized once the battery was taken out and put back in. Yeah, I’m planning to destroy this whole motherboard next time.

The best approach would be to run the test on the same system using a verified motherboard. If it suddenly functions correctly, the issue likely lies on the motherboard itself. If the behavior remains consistent, it probably points elsewhere—though BIOS components are still worth checking since they’re integrated rather than separate. I’ve tested everything possible, but it seems a new motherboard might be necessary. The Gigabyte X570 UD appears compatible with your current CPUs, though you may need to update the BIOS for the R5 5600x. My priority right now is ensuring everything functions properly.
The issue involves components that function well with Ryzen Plus but may not perform as expected with Ryzen 3. It seems you generally need to upgrade the BIOS for Ryzen 3, though sometimes a Ryzen 3 setup can be handled without it. The phrase "5000 ready" doesn’t guarantee a complete BIOS update is required. I’m not particularly enthusiastic about BIOS updates either. For my Ryzen plan, I’m considering a board with USB-based BIOS flashback and a UPS, hoping those won’t need maintenance.
