Yes, it should work. You can copy your HDD with a Windows 10 installation and move the SSD to a new PC. Windows 10 won’t get angry—just follow the steps carefully.

You might need to turn it back on, and whether that succeeds can vary based on the license kind you have.

You won’t have a backup copy of Windows to use for reactivation. If it fails, it will ask you to try again or provide further assistance.

Visited this scenario multiple times—usually after acquiring a vital SSD. They often include a complimentary activation key for a disk copy or imaging tool. I used that approach four times before replacing the drives, adjusted the boot sequence in the BIOS, and everything worked smoothly (applied to Windows 7 and 10).

It can be used without activation under certain conditions, avoiding complete system issues. You may need to provide a new key, or the software can recognize hardware changes linked to your Microsoft account.

Connect your Windows 10 license to your Microsoft account. Once done, you can clone your HDD to an SSD using tools like Macrium Reflect or EaseUS. Both options are free.

No, you don't need to turn off your Windows 10 version on the original PC and then turn it back on for the copied files. The process works by simply copying the installed version to the new drive without deactivating anything.

The update wasn’t necessary once the drive moved to SSD. Just start it up. If you already have the SSD without any cloning tool, you’ll need to purchase one. I can’t suggest a free alternative that functions properly.
