I recently purchased a TP-Link N900 Wi-Fi card. It arrived in packaging and was ready for installation on my friend’s PC. His motherboard is an Asus Maxumis VIII Hero featuring three PCI-E slots. The first slot remains empty, the second sits just beside the graphics card’s left fan, and the third is dedicated to his Elgato HD60 Pro. One of the screws from the PCB on the TP-Link unit and a metal bracket strike the plastic shield on the motherboard. I’m considering either adjusting the screws or purchasing a shorter version. I’m trying to figure out what those screws are, as there’s no information on the TP-Link website and their support line isn’t providing details. They seem to suggest replacing the card instead. I’m not planning to buy another one. While wireless internet isn’t ideal, my friend lives in a home without wiring and can’t run cables throughout his house. I’m hoping someone here has experience with this model or can describe the screws and their appearance. *Note: I couldn’t find a photo of the other side.*

It doesn’t seem to cause any real problems if it’s not perfectly straight or makes contact with plastic, as long as the antennas work fine. The Elgato should fit as long as no one moves the setup or damages the antennas.

I want to make sure before I head out. He’ll be moving a custom desk, so I need to check if the Elgato works. I’m not really up for lifting it myself, but I like its current spot. I might try bending it or taking off the metal plate if possible. Thanks!

It's surprising that swapping the screws feels simpler than just handling the Elgato device.

Initially I believed this was the same card I previously relied on. If that's true, it's a solid card that maintains full speeds even on 5GHz. After moving the router to my room, my mom is now using it for her computer. I could recommend removing one screw and heading to a nearby hardware store. They might recognize it or help you locate a shorter screw with compatible threads. You'd be amazed at what you can discover.
