Hello everyone, I'm considering an upgrade for my PC, aiming for the AM5 platform. I'm still figuring out the best options and how they affect my RAM choices. Currently, I could purchase a bundle locally in the Netherlands—Ryzen 5 7500F and an Asus TUF Gaming B650-Plus motherboard—for roughly €329 to €357.77. I'd also need a set of DDR5 6800 MHz RAM for about €99 to €107.66. It looks like the pricing is reasonable, but I wanted your opinions. I'm aware that a GPU upgrade might be more beneficial for gaming, though I haven't found any good deals on GPUs that wouldn't limit my CPU performance. I also feel like investing in the CPU and motherboard gives me better long-term value. I'm eager for your suggestions! My system specs are: Processor: Ryzen 5 5600X, Motherboard: Gigabyte B550 Gaming X V2, GPU: RX 6600 8GB, RAM: 4x8 Corsair Vengeance DDR4 at 3200MHz, Storage: Kingston NV2 1TB M.2, SSD: Crucial P3 1TB, Power Supply: Thermaltak Smart BM2 650W, Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow, OS: Windows 11 Pro.

Consider a slower configuration since 6800MT/s isn't ideal on Ryzen 7000. Switching to 2:1 mode will hurt performance more than lowering it to 6000MT/s CL30. It might be smarter to invest upfront with a 6000 CL30 kit instead. The combination of motherboard and CPU doesn't really matter—what matters is their individual prices. You can find a 7600 and a B650M-HDV/M.2 for around €324, so keep that in mind. Also, the Ryzen 9000 is expected to be announced soon, possibly at Computex, so you could either upgrade to a better CPU for the same budget or wait a month and get the same CPU at a lower cost. Since your setup is still solid, it might be worth waiting a bit longer.

Opting for a GPU upgrade seems more advantageous, especially up to the 7800XT/4070 range. You probably won’t hit a significant bottleneck at 1080p, and at 1440p you’ve managed well with a 5900X paired with a 7900XTX in ultrawide. CPU limitations mainly appeared in BG3 city and Starfield recently, which depends on the games you play.

Thank you for your reply. I've heard about the Ryzen 9000 announcement, but I'm unsure if waiting is worthwhile. In the Netherlands, May is recognized as holiday pay season, which means I'll receive additional earnings from my employer. There are also many big sales events that could lower prices and make it worth the wait. Appreciate your advice on RAM—I wasn't aware of that, and it's really helpful to know!

I believe the jump from 5600x to 7500F isn't significant enough. I haven't upgraded myself yet. For gaming, a GPU upgrade would bring much more benefit. However, if you're serious about the CPU, you might consider a 5700X3D for better value or an AM5 chip that outperforms 7500F—maybe wait for the 9000 series. I think I'd go with the latter option for you.
