Plugging in just the 8-pin connector should work, but ensure the PSU is compatible with your motherboard model.
The 4pin is meant for maximum overclocking, 1x 8pin works just fine. With a 750w PSU, ensure you have at least two 8pin CPU cables, and note that the actual 8pin cables are double 4pin, so you can combine one to achieve the 4pin version.
When running at 12900K(S), I’d prefer the extra 4-pin plugged in. The board powers on with just the 8-pin connector, which supports around 400W. If you won’t be near that limit, there’s no need for the additional pin. It’s not harmful to connect it, but since the connector is hard to access inside a case, you might not bother plugging it in.
