I own the standard ISP router provided by AT&T, which functions adequately except during peak times when online gaming feels slow. I have an Ethernet connection via power line for my PC and Xbox because the router is in another room. I’m curious if purchasing a high-performance model like a Nighthawk would boost my speed.

What velocity are you planning to use when heading home? Upgrading to a superior router might help, but it’s likely more beneficial to opt for a quicker service from your provider.

I receive 13.1 Mbps and 1.07 Upload speed according to Ookla's Speedtest, but the results show 16.88 Mbps download and 1.73 Mbps upload.

And whether you're on Wi-Fi or a direct connection matters a lot. Even with my 1 GIG internet, switching to a 5 GIG Xbox still causes lag, which is why I connected it via a cable.

No, unless there are more than 5-10 people online at once. The costly router isn't worth it.

speed limits are set by your ISP, internet connection, network hardware, and your router. you could achieve faster performance, but if your plan includes a maximum of 15 mbps even with a high-end device, that’s the upper limit you’ll reach under ideal conditions.

You are using an internet service from AT&T that costs you money right now. Improving your router won’t make much difference unless your current plan provides the speeds you need.

They seem to have made a mistake. Those speeds likely match your 18 Mbps plan. Depending on your location, that could be the top offering from AT&T. You might want to consider other ISPs like Cable Co for potentially better deals.
