Thanks! I’ve already looked at a few refurbished towers, all priced over $200. I’m planning to spend about $12 on the CPU and $35 on a 240GB SSD, which should keep it pretty affordable—around $7 to $8 per month for a while. Eventually, I’ll upgrade to a gaming laptop for my college work.

Even simple GPUs can improve performance significantly. Look for a Core 2 Quad Q8400 if you're handling many tasks—its extra cores offer better benefits than the E8500's higher clock speed.

I had previously purchased a Core 2 Quad Q9550, but this motherboard only works with Core 2 Duo processors.

In short, any second or third generation prebuilt will render that item useless, especially with an i3 CPU. The LGA 775 is outdated and offers little real value unless you manage to find a budget machine with a Q6600 for around fifty dollars. It’s mostly used for retro gaming or extreme overclocking now, but it can still handle basic tasks. My E8400 at 4.72 GHz (stable) will only match a single-core 3770, and multi-core won’t surpass even a second-gen i3. Heavy overclocking might beat an i3, but it won’t match an i3 in performance most of the time, and the quad options usually perform similarly to an i3 or i5.

Usually I locate such setups for buyers on eBay. Many affordable i5 and i3 office configurations are available for under $100, ready to share with you if you're interested.

I found a used Dell tower matching your setup for about $200 in India.

Since you were talking in usd I assumed you lived in the us. I am not knowledgeable about prices there so sorry but I cannot help you with that. It's an entirely different market.
