Hello everyone, recently my computer began making a clicking sound somewhere. Initially, I assumed it was the fans, so I checked each one individually. After disconnecting them, the issue disappeared. Since my drive isn’t installed, I removed the GPU to see if the noise came from there, but it didn’t. The sound persisted even after restarting the PC. The next day, when I tried to power it on, it failed to turn on, which was unusual because it worked fine the previous day. After rechecking all connections, the computer still made the noise. I performed a paperclip test on the power supply and confirmed the fans spun without making any sound. I’m unsure what’s causing this. Could it be a faulty PSU or is the problem coming from another component? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Really, even with decent earphones I struggled to pick up much. Can you clarify what you meant by the 'paperclip' test? What type of power supply do you use? The fan bearings aren’t infinite and they begin to wear out over time, making a noticeable rattling noise.
You need to really increase the volume to make anything audible. It sounds like a fan. Check if your mainboard includes a chipset fan and see if you've tested it. Any other components in the PC that produce sound could indicate an open electrical circuit moving quickly. If the noise comes from the power supply unit, it might be due to arcing over tiny gaps. Hopefully nothing is damaged—consider replacing the PSU.
The fans and GPU were removed as possible causes; the noise might still come from the PSU. Have you tried unplugging all IO connectors? From the BPM it sounds like a fan, possibly the PSU fan—some PSUs only start spinning when a load is applied.

My motherboard lacks fans, which might explain the quieter sound near the PSU. However, when I tested outside with a paperclip, the noise disappeared. Online research suggested that loose screws on the exterior bracket or dust entering the PSU could cause similar issues. To resolve this, I plan to use compressed air and tighten the screws. While waiting, I booted the PC and the sound was fully eliminated.
