i assembled this system back in 2018 using budget components and promotional items from surveys. the ram costs were relatively high at that time, so i opted for a single 8GB module with 2400MHz speed paired with my 2400GB Vega 11. it performed adequately for games like Fortnite, Minecraft, CS:GO, GTA 5, and older titles. some games would occasionally freeze when the Vega 11 required more than 1GB of RAM, especially during intense usage. I found a good offer for two 8GB modules at 3200MHz DDR4 for just 99 NZD—a much better value compared to slower options. There are videos on YouTube showing these games running smoothly with 3200MHz RAM on the Vega 11, though it seems the chip doesn’t officially support that speed. My motherboard supports it fine, but I was considering a GPU instead. The price would have been around 300 NZD if I’d gone that route, and since my monitor is 1360x768 at 60Hz, it wouldn’t be worth it. I have 500 NZD on PayPal and $4.40 in gift cards to this site—so maybe I could upgrade?
You were thinking about the specific GPU model you intended to purchase.
A better GPU will certainly boost performance, while the dual-channel setup will also enhance it significantly. It’s a more affordable option compared to others, which makes it a great upgrade, especially with an iGPU. You might consider purchasing a dual-channel kit now and see what new features Zen 3, Ampere, and big Navi bring before deciding whether to upgrade your entire system.
You're welcome! It seems you're planning to stick with the 3200MHz RAM instead of investing in a GPU. That way, you can save money now and upgrade your monitor later when better options become available.
