You’re ready to install Windows on your new SSD. To hide the drive from programs, files, and the desktop, you’ll need to format it as a read-only partition or use a bootable installation media. Make sure to back up important data before proceeding. Thanks!

Transfer these directories to another spot. Click right on each folder, select Properties, go to the Location section, then choose Move.

Sure, I can do that right away on startup.

It doesn’t fill itself in automatically. You can handle it yourself whenever you wish. For software, this isn’t straightforward. Windows restricts easy automatic installation placement. I suggest setting up a separate Program Files folder on your hard drive. Then you can change the drive letter during installation. The more complex solution involves using regedit.

No problem. Can you clarify what you're referring to?

The key point is that I wouldn’t rush changing the library locations. You can simply transfer everything to the HDD and adjust the storage spots once you’re ready. I’ve seen that Win10 handles this better than Win7, where moving the Documents folder wasn’t possible. With Win10 it relocates all files within the folder when changing locations. Regarding software, it seems obvious—Windows usually installs everything by default on the OS drive.

I just don’t want extra program files taking up space on my SSD... probably because it’s already full when I install Windows.

Include the Program files and Program Files (x86) directory on another drive. Adjust the letter for the installation location. Windows and applications handle installation paths without concern. The folders don’t need specific names like "Program Files"; just naming them that way speeds up setup. Some software limits your choice during installation (e.g., Chrome), but most allow selection in advanced or custom settings.
