I just put together my new machine and installed Windows 7, but I didn’t want to stick with it, so I upgraded to Windows 8.1. When I booted up, I went through BIOS, chose the USB as the boot device, and selected my 500GB HDD. The OS installer asked me to pick the HDD, then I selected mine. It showed only 464GB instead of the full 500GB. After trying to format it, the process stalled. I tried using DiskPart again, but it didn’t help. I’ve used several fixes before, so I thought I’d repeat what worked for Windows 7. Now I’m stuck and really confused—wasting another ten hours on DBA won’t help. Please assist me urgently!

Do you have a bootable USB or DVD copy of Windows 8.1 ready to use? Make sure to remove every partition listed in the installer before choosing the unallocated space, then pick 'New' followed by 'Next'.

I pressed the format option but it didn’t work. I have a USB drive with Windows 8.1 installed, and I’ve tried that too—it still shows the same error.

You haven’t saved your progress yet, so you don’t need to reinstall.
