I've performed an install flash with Rufus on a 32-bit laptop running Ubuntu 16.04.6. The system was from 2008, and I've successfully booted before. However, now I encounter this issue when inserting the flash drive. I'm unsure if the older hardware or software is causing the problem, especially since I've used Ubuntu this way before. It seems like others with similar setups have faced the same error, but I haven't found guidance for installing Ubuntu on this specific machine. The BIOS image is available if you need more details. This situation feels frustrating, especially considering the sentimental value of getting it working again.

Start by using another memory card, re-download Ubuntu, and set up a fresh installation media, then attempt the install once more.

It functioned properly. I was amazed at how you managed to reset it completely. Now I’m feeling a bit confused. Hopefully, others facing similar problems will see this discussion later. Thanks!

It's incredible how frequently operating system installations encounter issues.

Don't think you're foolish for attempting! (By the way, this is Ubuntu, not Ubunto) Another point... You might want to think about 18.04 16.04 being considered ancient now! 18.04 remains supported until this April and offered 32-bit compatibility.

if you're on the same machine with Windows... just use the Windows installer—it handles everything, installs and sets up dual boot automatically. You can pick different versions or even add your own flavor if it's not available. More details: website + info link, download here: installer link, and you can run it on any drive with enough space. No need to reformat or repartition; it shows up as a folder in Windows and includes an uninstaller. Just install and reboot to any Ubuntu version.

The problem isn't the USB stick anymore—it functions properly now. The concern lies with his 32-bit system, as the newest 32-bit Ubuntu releases reach end-of-life in a few days.
