You're experiencing some connectivity issues across your network setup. It sounds like the routers are handling different tasks depending on which one you connect to, and this affects your ability to control certain devices. The main challenge is ensuring consistent access to your Sonos speakers and Philips Hue lights from any router, especially since you're relying on an iPad for multimedia control. You mentioned trying to sync everything through a central hub, but it seems the routing isn't allowing seamless communication between devices. You might want to check your router settings, ensure all devices are properly connected, and verify that the Philips Hue app is installed on Windows if needed.
Thanks for the advice. I’ll keep that in mind next time I need to set one up (probably not often). No configuration has been done yet, so they’re functioning like switches—each with its own SSID. I can set priority for one device over others. I haven’t tested pinging the routers yet.
It could be a simple idea, but double-check that all IP addresses fall within the same range such as 192.169.x.x, 172.x.x.x or 10.x.x.x. If they differ, you won’t be able to detect other devices. I’m not sure how it functions exactly, but it works for my guest network using a separate IP range from the main network. Make sure the Razor routers aren’t serving as DHCP servers and are receiving their IPs from the virgin media hub, otherwise two devices in the house might receive the same address, which could cause issues. I don’t have much experience with Razor routers, so I can’t recommend a method to ensure proper network extension.
There are no weak ideas here—just basic verifications. The IP addresses align perfectly at 192.168.x.xx/xx. I haven’t reviewed the DHCP configuration yet, but I’ll confirm it shortly. Right now I’m at work, so this will be addressed later. Appreciate the advice. Razer offers an app that gives full router control on your phone, making certain checks easy to perform.
Razer mentions that the silo can function as a router in a network, yet it shouldn't act like a modem. This could indicate an issue with double NAT settings. It seems they might be able to switch both devices into bridge mode while retaining all previous features. Give it a try and observe the results.
Essentially you'll need to configure the Virgin router as a router, allowing data to move between LAN and WAN. The other devices should function as switches or access points. Each device has its own method for this setup. Typically, turning off DHCP on the Razer and connecting it to the Virgin box through a LAN port on the back should suffice. This approach creates a single flat switched network, eliminating routing and ensuring broadcast traffic reaches all devices. For internet access, you'll be routed through the Virgin router. The current functionality relies on having two separate LANs with broadcast domains, so traffic dependent on broadcasts won't cross between them.
They seem to belong to separate networks, correct? You only have one SSID for your whole network. If you need to change manually from one Razer sila to another, that’s likely the problem. Others have already mentioned this—double-check that both silas are configured as APs connected to your main router. (Also, ensure they aren’t leaking IP addresses.)
