Hi everyone, I'm facing some issues recently. I swapped my CPU from an A6 7400K to an A10 Pro 7800B with 8GB RAM installed. After the change, my motherboard (Biostar Hi-Fi A70U3P) is showing 4GB RAM but it's reading both sticks, though only the second slot is active. The CPU-Z shows 8GB running on a single channel. I've tried swapping both RAM sticks and updating the BIOS, but the second slot keeps being used. My A6 is working perfectly now. What might be causing this problem?

Do the CPU connections look intact? Is it possible to run the same CPU on a different motherboard? Are the CPU and motherboard officially suited for each other? Those are the points that come to mind.

It seems there might be an issue with the compatibility of your A10. According to the motherboard information, it should work, but if any pin is damaged, the CPU could malfunction. Double-check the connections carefully.

It varies based on the affected pin; I've noticed instances where memory channel pins were compromised, causing the system to function normally but missing that specific channel detection.

Check for cracks, discoloration, or uneven surfaces. If only the shape is changed without visible breaks, it might be bent.

The issue is that the two RAM sticks with the A10 work in single-channel mode, while the A6 operates in dual-channel mode. All sticks are being detected correctly. Your confusion comes from the screenshot.

It's confusing because it's difficult to explain this clearly. The issue is A6, where both sticks are read as 8GB RAM. A10 works fine, but only the second RAM slot is being used. According to the BIOS on Windows A6, both sticks display 8GB (7.4 GB usable) and 8GB (3.4 GB usable) for the second stick.

I suspect this might be a faulty CPU. The A10 model is quite outdated, and buying it secondhand could be risky.

You can still run it with just an 8GB RAM stick, but performance might be limited.
