You're experiencing issues with your left 4 Dead 2 mod that replaces the original models. It seems the mod overwrote the original files, making them unrecognizable. Since you suspect it's a CSS-based mod, try restoring the original assets by checking your download folder and reinstalling the mod if possible. Also, ensure you're not accidentally downloading files from multiplayer sources again. If the problem persists, consider reaching out to the mod's support community for help.

Look inside your addons folder; it might contain the solution. Consider reinstalling if that doesn’t help.

I turned off all add-ons, planning to reinstall if anyone here doesn’t have a fix. Thanks for your assistance, Rambo.

Check if the game wasn't saved as an add-on and locate the appropriate folder structure. Remove any v_models subdirectory if present. Revisit the Steam/SteamApps/Common/Left 4 Dead 2/left4dead2 path and delete pak01_dir.vpk. Confirm the files by opening your Steam library, selecting Left 4 Dead 2, choosing Properties, then navigating to the Local Files tab and verifying the game cache integrity. Allow the process to complete; it should resolve any issues. I’m not certain servers can alter the vpk file itself, but since it’s only about 3.7mb, a redownload seems reasonable. It’s likely stored in the addons folder as a standard .vpk file or within models/v_models.
