It's a straightforward process that I'm confident will succeed 100%. This entire endeavor feels more like a trial than a required improvement.

I acquired an older HP AMD P360 laptop, which now runs on a used SSD (Samsung 840). It works fine, with a Cinebench R15 score of 89. I swapped the paste and thermal pads to keep it at around 40°C during idle. It’s about $7 less than a new P960 Quad on eBay ($12 originally but I got a $5 discount). @OriginalUser117—have you ever done something similar?

Hi, sorry for bringing up an old discussion again. I just upgraded my laptop to an AMD Phenom II P960 Quad-Core CPU, which should allow for that kind of upgrade at least. In terms of performance, I haven’t seen a major difference yet, but the thermal management has improved slightly. If you’re interested, you can definitely try something similar, though I’m not sure it will work with other processors.
