I purchased GTA IV during the Steam Sale. I was aware it came from a bad port but hoped someone would have fixed it. What did others experience? If they did, what were their impressions? I watched the opening few minutes and realized I wouldn’t want to continue unless there were noticeable visual or performance upgrades—especially aiming for around 60 frames per second. Appreciate any advice!

GTA IV remains exactly as it was designed. It offers a solid experience, though it falls short in some areas.

ICEnhancer is a great graphics add-on for the game, though I haven’t found any performance improvements yet.

The R9-290 offers better performance compared to your 560Ti and 780 models. While ports are still average, it works smoothly on solid systems.

It's definitely "playable" and I was really impressed by a 10/10 review. I also plan to enjoy Witcher 2 alongside Dark Souls 2 at the same time, so I won't pick the standard GTA IV version. That's why I'm searching for mods.

Lower the graphics settings. It runs faster, and with an ENB mod it will look excellent without affecting speed.

I really don't think you're missing much with GTA IV. The narrative isn't especially engaging, the driving and battles come across as quite poor, and the game runs somewhat sluggishly. It's good for a single playthrough, but once you've finished that, I'd probably revisit GTA SA again, and after playing through it multiple times, you'll notice a lot about both titles.

The GTA IV mod that Slick praised was likely "GTA: San Andreas," as it was a popular choice for fans looking to expand the original series.
