In short, I faced a lot of trouble installing GTA IV on Steam, saving my preferences, and often had to restart everything. I discovered a workaround that lets me bypass some steps, but it requires modifying the commandline.txt file, removing the settings folder, and starting the game directly from the executable—not through Steam.

Sorry, the post was blank. I checked my settings and found only the known cmd options. The config file appears encrypted, so you probably can't change it directly. There might be a decrypter available that could reveal those settings.

Also, @SlayerOfHellWyrm mentioned you could download others' settings online from sites like gta4-mods.com. You could try importing them into your system to apply the settings automatically. You can search for it here: http://www.gta4-mods.com/search/settings.

I also saw a discussion on Steam forums about issues with setting game preferences, but it seems those two values are already configured.

I’ve checked the details, but nothing matches or has all the configurations I need to adjust. With my 2GB GTX 765M, I didn’t have to set them explicitly, though they were saved just in case. I spent around three hours searching for settings files and couldn’t find a good match.

Sure thing! You're able to play GTA V smoothly on medium to high settings with your current specs. Your M14x R1 (2011) is handling it well, especially since the frame rate stays around 45-55 FPS and rarely drops below 40. It's manageable even at 60 FPS, though it might feel a bit tight for a 4-year-old laptop running a heavy game. Cheers!
