I'm pretty sure I purchased cat 6 cables, if that's correct. I'll test the switch and share the outcomes.

It might be an issue since cable damage or poor connections are often seen in walls. Regarding a switch inside the repeater, you won't be able to tell either. Routers and extenders rarely mention having a switch.
