I'm confused about why my hardware raid setup isn't showing up in the console. When I try to activate it, it seems to cause more issues than before. I'm just starting out with Debian and Linux, and I've been learning a lot but downloading many packages. My server is a SuperMicro 5017C-MTF, equipped with a Super X9SCL-F motherboard that has an Xeon E3-1220V2 processor and 16GB of RAM. I'm using the built-in hardware raid controller, and the four drives are configured in RAID 5. There are some problems when trying to mount them in Debian. I've attached my system details for reference.

So, I am a huge noob as well lol. But, I do know a few things that maybe at least could be useful? Maybe? Depends on the situation tho. A) I wouldn't use hardware RAID if you can avoid it, software raid is more robust. ZFS is amazing, but you would have to do a bunch of work to get that working, its not out of the box. I use freenas for that reason, but this may be beyond your needs and use case. Also, same sort of vein, the good ol "RAID 5 is dead" saying. Its just not enough redundancy these days. Granted, 4 1 TB drives are not huge, so statistically speaking your better off, but still, just figured I would say it... B) I can't help you with the why its not showing up in debian, but I do use fstab on my VM's (I run freenas and some unbutu VM's under ESXi, but, like, I am NO Linux guru at all lol). But for my use.... fstab is just a Samba mount. I don't think you would need that in this config? You are trying to connect bare metal... In my use case I have fstab entries to connect an ubuntu server instance over a virtual network connection (via ESXi) to the freenas SMB shares I have. Thats.... about all I can say. Hopefully something in there helps lol

You lack a raid controller, you have the intel fakeraid, you don't want to rely on that. Why not just use md, zfs or btrfs for a software raid? It's much better here—more features and faster. If you're after hardware raid, opt for genuine hardware raid cards from manufacturers like LSI.
