I’m not familiar with DayZ since I don’t own it, but I have 10 hours logged which helped me out. You can try using an axe to cut wood and make a crutch, then apply it to your broken leg!
I stopped playing DayZ when the zombies got super powerful and they messed up their clipping and pathing, making it easy to walk through walls and beat you hard. Also, when the servers got full of script kiddies and exploiters that would take your items from far away, it was really frustrating.
It's tough to pinpoint loot spots since updates shift the best areas regularly. The safest choice is moving inland, as coastal zones mainly offer essential supplies for survival. If you're using the Steam overlay, open a Chernarus map in your browser to aid navigation when you begin.
Move toward the interior, the top treasure trail starts at Cherno>Kamenka military base> the antenna> Vybor military base> NWAF (and make a stop in Zelenogorsk for a V3S). Focus on searching police stations, fire stations, barracks, police vehicles, helicopters if you spot one. Also look for a new structure—whatever it is, it spawns plenty of military gear and AK74s.
