Need assistance with an unusual issue.
Initially, in early 2022, I acquired an i7 12700 (non K) and a budget DDR4 LGA1700 motherboard for my first PC; at that time, I had limited knowledge about building computers. About a year ago, the RAM slots on that board ceased functioning, so I visited Microcenter to purchase a new motherboard and DDR5 RAM. I bought a Gigabyte Z790 Elite X and a G.SKILL Trident Z5 RGB Series DDR5 RAM 32GB 7200, which is still not fully usable by my current CPU.
I’m currently feeling uncertain about the next steps and would appreciate some guidance on upgrading this setup. I’ve heard mixed things online—some suggest AMD as a better alternative due to Intel’s recent issues, while others emphasize its potential for future upgrades. However, since I recently bought this motherboard and RAM combo at a good price, changing it to AMD would require another major overhaul.
My Microcenter offers discounts on 14700k and 14900k models, and I already have a 360mm AIO system. Any advice on handling this situation would be very helpful. I realize I might have missed reading about Intel’s problems before buying the Z790 board, but I’m determined to make the best decisions with what I have.
What upgrades are you considering? You've got a solid kicking system. It's tough to get unbiased feedback on the 13/14th generation right now. I've been keeping track of this closely since I own one, and I don't see any more risks with the CPUs after the latest updates.
