Need assistance with Access Violation issues?
Not sure if this is the right place, I'm new here. Hello everyone.
I own an Asus Prime Z790 P with a 13900K processor, Corsair Vengeance DDR5 6000 MHz RAM, AMD RX 7900 XT graphics card, a new WD Black NVMe 1TB SSD, a Cooler Master 2 fan AIO with 1000W PSU, and two Dell monitors (G3223q) connected via 144MHz DP.
I recently installed Windows 11 Home.
I encounter an error when playing "Wow:Access_Violation" – the instruction at address 0x00007ff65662d948 references memory at 0xffffffffffffffff. The process ID is 15604, and thread ID is 17688.
When browsing normally, I see status access violation errors, and all browsers crash occasionally.
My troubleshooting steps:
- Removed one RAM stick and it stopped again.
- Swapped the other stick and the issue recurred.
- Installed a different DDR5 stick and the problem persisted.
- Ran MemTest86 for ten hours; it passed with both sticks connected.
- Tried Windows 95, but the PC crashes when testing.
- Performed a Windows memory test, which passed.
- Completed a Burnin Test 10.2; it passed.
- Changed the PCIe slots on the graphics card and it worked again.
- CPU temperatures are around 87°C during gameplay, dropping to 70°C.
- All drivers are up to date.
Reliability History/Monitor shows no events.
I ran sfc /scannow, which detected corrupt files and fixed them after a restart; it happened again afterward.
DSIM won’t run.
I have no clear next steps.
Execute the built-in Windows Troubleshooters. They might identify and resolve issues. Next, run "dism" and "sfc /scannow". Refer to the provided links for detailed instructions: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-d...s-10-image https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-use-sfc-...es-2626161 If the issues persist, check Reliability History/Monitor for any error codes, warnings, or events near Access Violation errors.
sfc reported corrupt files, but they were repaired yet issues remain—why would it detect corruption during a new setup? reliability monitor shows nothing. Dism doesn't launch because the online/cleanup-image/checkhealth feature isn't recognized.
Extract the CPU and verify there are no bent pins or debris inside the socket. Additionally, confirm that the RAM modules are securely fastened. You should hear a clicking sound during installation and be able to clearly see the 'gold' on the connectors if possible.
While handling the CPU, I began to think about why browsers were crashing. Some looked into the matter and discovered a resource here:
https://www.partitionwizard.com/partitio...ation.html
From that page it says: "STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION is an error code in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, caused by improper handling of code management and indicating unauthorized program requests for memory."
Read through the content carefully and explore further research on your own. It’s likely you’ll find more details and understand other possible causes.
I’ve looked up and studied this before posting. These were the initial steps I took that you mentioned, and I understand you’re trying to assist and value my effort. No offense, but this response feels like giving a 70-year-old grandmother instructions on fixing her browser... when reviewing the list of actions you’ve taken, it’s clear I’m not someone who knows how to use a computer or technology.
Most of the actions taken so far have been hardware adjustments, especially when the issue relates to code management. Still, it's worth checking the hardware.
Besides browsers, what other processes are active during gameplay?
Restart with the fewest apps, tools, and extensions running. If the crashes cease, gradually reintroduce them one at a time, giving space between each addition.
If the problems resume, it's probable that the most recent app added is responsible or affected.
After that, I don't have any other ideas.
Only the browsers and the wow game are handling everything else, right? I reached out to Asus and adjusted the processor core ratios in AITweaker to 55 instead of auto. This will help us observe what happens during tonight's gaming session.
