Need assistance with a new PC build. The third PCIe slot isn’t working and preventing graphics card updates.
Hey everyone, here’s a quick rundown of what happened. I started building my first PC in May 2023. While testing it, I checked all three USB ports with my capture card to confirm everything was working, since I didn’t have a graphics card yet. I noticed the third port controlled by the chipset wasn’t receiving power—my Xbox shows up on TV but the PC doesn’t recognize it in Device Manager or any software. By November, I got a 6700 XT graphics card and tried using it in the main slot, but the third slot needed for the capture card kept failing. ASRock tech support suggested updating the BIOS, but I couldn’t do that. They replaced the whole motherboard instead. Now I have the new board, but the same problems persist. The third PCIe slot isn’t working either. Updating the BIOS didn’t help, and even trying to install updates got stuck in a loading screen. Any advice or help would be super appreciated—this is both my first PC build and my first attempt at a custom setup. Thanks!
Sorry, it seems I might have missed something by mistake. In fact, I had the same concept about not filling the first slot until after getting my graphics card in November. I’ll try the other part where I switch to x4. Thanks! I’ll test it today and check the results.
I still don't grasp the details, but I managed to fix the issue. A longer explanation of what I did is below. Sorry about the confusion. While troubleshooting, I noticed the capture card functioned in both top and middle slots but not the bottom slot. I discovered an old Elgato article suggesting a similar problem and that users had to revert to an older driver for their card. I visited the official Elgato site and installed the latest software update for the capture tool. When prompted, I opted to uninstall and reinstall it. After completing the installation and updates, it worked properly. I’m unsure why it didn’t function with the previous revision, but now both my capture card and graphics cards are operational. Thank you for your assistance.
Possibly incorrectly placed, damaged...failed...in some way? Uncertain, but nice to work now! Have fun!
