Last week we purchased a new Netgear router, and after setting everything up, I connected my laptop. It shows limited connection, sometimes it works but then drops back within ten to fifteen minutes. I changed the DNS settings to automatic and tried running "ipconfig/release ipconfig/renew netsh winsock reset" from the command prompt as an administrator, but that didn’t help. I’m not sure of any other solution. Router model is Netgear R6250, laptop brand Toshiba, model C55D-A5392, running Windows 8.1.

Check if adding another gadget to your setup allows the laptop to link. Also, try configuring the laptop’s network settings manually—static IP, DNS, gateway—to observe the outcome.

It's likely the laptop's WiFi or the access point's network doesn't fully match the specifications. I experienced this with an older 802.11N device that disrupted a budget router's connection.

Consider updating your IP address to a new one for better connectivity or privacy.

When other systems receive IP addresses, assign the next available one. For instance, if the desktop is at 192.168.1.100 and the Xbox at 192.168.1.101, configure your laptop to .102 and test connectivity to the other devices.
