Hey guys, I just upgraded my rig with a 9900k and a Z390 Pro M.2 16GB Corsair RGB Pro RAM. When I boot into BIOS, the voltage listed is 1.2V. Is that a bit too high? I’ve turned off MCE, and I noticed voltages can jump up to 1.4V or more when I disable it. After flashing the BIOS to B12 and resetting CMOS loads, things seem okay. I’m worried my board might be faulty or if I’m missing something to keep the voltage low. It’s good news though—my cores are running at 4.7GHz and temperatures are normal. The MSI Afterburner shows temps between 55-65°C, and my Dark Rock Pro 4 cooler is working well. I’m not sure how to safely keep it at 5GHz for daily use without risking damage, especially since I’m paying a lot for these parts. Any advice would be super helpful so I don’t end up frying my chip!
1.2v works just fine; even 1.45 is acceptable but I wouldn't exceed that.
my bord sais reads 1.2 at stock settings in bios, but in os hwm it spikes up to 1.4v on its own in vcore. my vid shows higher levels sometimes, so it's unclear what's happening. i'm worried about the static voltage being too high for the chip over time. i had a 3770k running at 4.3ghz with 1.23v static on my old rig for years. i'm not sure if a stativ voltage is safe for the chip. thanks for your help.
Approximately 65% of the 9900k budget can handle 5GHz. The top speed is around 1375v, which is the highest I suggest for regular use even with cooling. If your CPU reaches 5GHz at that voltage, it won’t work.
Thanks for your response. I plan to stick with the stock settings and keep the voltage unchanged. I don’t have much information about all the BIOS options on the Gigabyte Z390 Pro Bord. I assume setting the multiplier, static voltage, and LLC is the right approach. My 9900K can handle 5GHz but requires around 1.3 to 1.35V. I’m not sure if that voltage is safe for continuous operation. MCE has disabled C-states at 5GHz, but I’m worried about the high voltage affecting the chip’s longevity. I’ve been told this.
