I just completed my first PC build. It includes an AORUS B450 Elite V2, Ryzen 5 5600X, RTX 2060, 250GB WD Black M.2, a crucial 1TB SSD, a Corsair 850W PSU, and two DDR4 8GB sticks from Corsair Vengeance. After assembling it, I powered it on and noticed two flashing red lights between the CPU and RAM. I tried reseating the RAM and moving it around, but the problem persists. The issue seems to be related to needing a BIOS update for the board—was that correct?

It seems likely the B450 includes Zen3 compatible BIOS by default. Also, it appears the board likely needs a supported CPU to function properly.

The boards aren't QFFlash compatible, so I thought about using a support CPU. I’m curious if a Ryzen 3 2200G would fit because I’m not sure about the graphics on the chip.

BIOS update seems likely for your B450 model, but verify the board maker's compatibility guide for the RAM you use. RAM can make a big difference with Ryzens. My 5900X caused problems for months until @BiotechBen mentioned RAM training, which clarified the issue was indeed the RAM.

The board confirms it works with 3200 MHz RAM. Are there any other specifications you should verify?

Speed isn't the main focus; the part number matters most. Certain boards react differently to specific RAM, and some processors behave similarly. @Linusboss look up your RAM's part # (SKU) in that list. Updated February 28, 2023 by An0maly_76 Added more details

I looked for the part number but didn’t find it anywhere. I searched the page, but nothing showed up. It seems the RAM isn’t compatible.

It could happen sometimes. RAM might function even if it isn't explicitly marked as compatible. I suggest starting with a BIOS update. I checked the CPU compatibility details for that board and found that support for your CPU was included in BIOS version F61.

@Linusboss shared what @Monsterkater mentioned. Being out of the list doesn't rule it out, but it also doesn't confirm it's possible. I've noticed this tends to happen with various board/CPU setups. My 5900X caused me a lot of trouble for about five months until @BiotechBen discussed memory training, which helped me get back on track. A BIOS update typically needs an older supported processor unless the board includes a dedicated USB port for updates. Updated February 28, 2023 by An0maly_76 Added more details

It should be possible to refresh the BIOS even without a chip in the socket. The maker’s site provides instructions for this process. Still, I think this is likely another instance of Corsair Vengeance RAM versus Ryzen again. There are many confirmed reports showing similar issues elsewhere, making it hard to ignore.
