Hello everyone! I have a Gigabyte RTX 3070 and an Intel i7-9700K. Upgrading my CPU seems like a bottleneck, so what options should I consider? I've heard about AMD's AM5 chipset and Intel's new generation processors. It sounds like Intel's latest models require more power. What do you think would work best?
For gaming, a 7800X3D is a solid choice if you have the budget. Intel processors tend to consume more power, and the 13th and 14th generation models have faced degradation problems. I’d favor a Ryzen 7600x or 7700x instead of any Intel CPU for performance reasons. Even a Ryzen 7600x would significantly boost your gaming experience compared to a 9700K. I upgraded from an overclocked 9900K to a 7700X and noticed a noticeable rise in frame rates with my RTX 4080, along with a big improvement in lows and stutter. My 4080 is certainly faster than the 3070. In gaming, the 7600X and 7700X offer similar performance.
The budget is currently around 7800x3d, which is the second best gaming CPU. The 9800x3d ranks first, but it's costly. If you don’t need that extra power, it might not be worth it. Some games really struggle with this setup—especially on 13th and 14th generation systems. They use similar CPUs to the 7800x3d (13900k/14900k) but draw three times more power and have a software/hardware issue that’s fixed, though we’re not sure it’ll improve long-term.
