Hello everyone, I recently swapped my Q6600 for an E5450 on my HTPC. I obtained the new unit after removing the socket tabs, applying a sticker, replacing the default Dell fan with a Noctua NF-B9 (it fits perfectly!), and connecting a 4-pin PWM header to the Dell 5-pin connector. However, I still face some problems:
- Booting into Windows 10 is failing; the system shows a CPU Fan error even after following the pinout guide.
- Every reboot causes the PC to flash LED indicators (1, 3, 4) on the front case, then turn back on when restarted. It seems the Chipset G31 can't handle E0 stepping for the Xeons. Someone might have fixed BIOS issues in a post, but I can’t find any downloads.
- After reboot, the BIOS displays "CPU not supported" and requires pressing F1 to continue. This is likely due to compatibility settings—my motherboard supports it, but the E5450 does not. The SLBBM model has C0 stepping, which seems better for my setup. I’m considering swapping it if possible.
- I downloaded microcodes and an A11 BIOS, planning to try a manual installation with my limited coding skills.

There are several ways to refresh the BIOS microcode. I've gathered all the tools and followed each guide I come across, but progress has been slow. I'm using CBROM195.exe to update the firmware files, though it often freezes. A tutorial on modifying the HexCode with HxD was helpful, but I'm worried about risking damage to the board. I'm unsure if a BIOS replacement is straightforward for a 330 or if it requires soldering. Anyone with experience would appreciate your advice.

Checking compatibility with the Dell BIOS is possible, though it may require some adjustments. It seems to be an older system, possibly AMI BIOS, so you might need to verify the specific version.
They don't rely on AMI. Dell uses a separate system known as DCCU
Ensuring both bioses rely on an ami bios (or Phoenix, whatever) allows proper module insertion. You may need to remove some unnecessary modules to fit everything. If you choose this path, there are specialized forums for bios modification. I’m not an expert in bios modification.
You've located the component and are preparing to flash the BIOS. It seems the chip is permanently attached, making replacement difficult. The issue isn't with AMI, which likely accounts for the loading errors you're encountering.
After experimenting with DCCU and similar software, I moved to Gold and found everything functioning smoothly. The BIOS no longer rejects CPU during startup, and features like speedstep, SSE4.1, and VT-X are now supported. I’m planning to install Windows 10 on this system now. There’s still a boot-time error about fan speed being out of range, possibly because the Noctua fan spins at a lower RPM than the standard Dell fan settings. No BIOS options exist to adjust it—do you know how to resolve this issue, or should I recommend removing the low-noise adapter and accepting the performance trade-off?
