Need assistance swapping out the nVidia GTX 1060 on a PC that's five years old?
I own an Acer Predator P03 600 UR18 that's five years old. I've swapped out the faulty PSU for a 500w unit and changed the CPU fan recently. Over the past six months, last night a front case fan stopped working for a few minutes. It stopped making noise and then the graphics became dim and "bright." I turned it off. This morning I checked again and everything was back to normal, so I (A) rolled back the driver I just installed and uninstalled the nVidia app I'd also just added (which vanished without warning). Then (B) tried updating the driver, but that didn't help. I restarted and the fan came back on for a few minutes. It seems it was functioning better after I removed the driver (returned to a 2021 version), though I was more concerned about the drivers at that time.
It looks like it's overheating, so I suspect it's failing. Since I'm retired and can't replace the PC, I might not be able to swap out the GPU. But...just in case, I'm not planning an upgrade—I just need something that works with my setup without breaking the bank. I mainly play The Sims 4 and a few older games.
My card is an nVidia GTX 1060 6G. My CPU is an i5, but I don't have the exact specs right now.
Thanks for any advice...
I've swapped the defective PSU for a 500w alternative. Could you share the model and make of the PSU if you opted for an aftermarket version?
