I recently planned to assemble my first custom PC and needed guidance on setting up an OS (Windows 10). I’m unsure how to proceed. I have a prebuilt machine with Windows 10 already installed, and my question is whether placing the hard drive from that PC as the main drive will make Windows 10 available there. Thank you for your help.

Does your latest system include an SSD? If yes, avoid relying on your previous hard drive. Upgrading to fresh Windows installation on the SSD will give you better performance. If not, you can attempt to start from the old hard drive, though Windows may be strict about unfamiliar hardware and a new motherboard could interfere with booting.

Check compatibility by confirming the motherboard supports the required SATA interface and features. For your ASUS model, ensure the SATA ports match the SSD specifications and that the BIOS is updated for optimal performance.

It's hard to determine the exact issue without seeing the motherboard. Testing seems necessary. Windows behaves differently with new hardware. Upgrading gradually usually helps, but swapping the board might lead to problems.
