True, but opting for Intel 14th gen might not be the best choice with today's setup. It would require a completely new system, including a CPU change, for the next time. I think spending money on a DDR4 setup could be a bit of a waste.

I'm facing a similar situation with my 5600x. It still performs well for my needs, but I've seen the CPU struggle in newer games. The same goes for the 3060ti. I'm playing at 1440p and am satisfied with it right now.

I'm thinking about upgrading to a 5700x3d or 5800x3d, but with Zen 5 and Arrow Lake on the horizon, it feels like a wait-and-see situation. The same applies to the GPU. I really want something capable of handling most modern games and still having some power left. I'm leaning toward a 4070 Ti Super for the next GPU.

In any case, I'd only recommend a CPU upgrade if it's at least 2 generations ahead (so 14th Gen could work), but I wouldn't suggest a CPU with no upgrade options at all, which is why I don't think it's worth it.

I'm using a 12th gen CPU and planning to upgrade to a 14th gen later. It might be worth starting low on eBay if the price is right. Upgrading the platform could be fine, but for around 200 dollars a big IPC boost without a full rebuild is really helpful.
Selling the 12400 board and memory together sounds good, allowing you to recover some expenses. A new bundle would likely cost about $280, so selling it for $150–200 would cover the AM5 motherboard cost.
You might be able to sell the 12400 separately for about $75, making the upgrade cost around $175 for a 14th gen chip. You could also save a bit by choosing the 13th gen, which performs almost the same as the 14th.

If you're comfortable with 1080p at 240hz, the 4070 super is more than sufficient. 12gb of VRAM is enough for 1080p.
For a future 1440p at 240hz, it's best to save and consider the RTX5080 by year-end.
It makes sense to tackle it gradually—start with the 9800X3D before moving to the RTX 5080.
The USB 4.0 support on X870 could be a better choice than the B650 motherboard.
