On December 29th, 2016, my brother and I swapped his motherboard to fit a CPU cooler because he had a prebuilt board. Once the PC was running and the CPU cooled down, we thought about resetting it. After doing that major hardware change, we realized we needed to connect a Windows 10 copy to the device for it to start up and recognize the hardware. Now the computer is stuck on the motherboard screen (ASRock) with Windows 10 loading dots visible for two hours. Is this just reinstalling Windows 10, or is the system still failing to detect the hardware? Your help would be really appreciated. Side note: My brother has the Windows 10 key on his phone, which he can use from his Windows 10 account.

The recovery setup seems to have problems. It’s best to reformat and reinstall Windows from the beginning.

You can reorganize and reinstall from the beginning. A Windows 10 installation media is required.

You must have an installation disc available in either DVD or USB format.

It seems the device would unexpectedly launch into the Windows 10 setup screen after being powered off and on, sometimes revealing unusual hardware behavior.

Do you understand which components' models were altered? If you had to swap the motherboard for a cooler, you might have also swapped the socket, possibly requiring a different chipset. This often needs a full reinstall. Keep any crucial data safe! And start with your Windows 10 CD/DVD.
