I’m preparing to switch from Windows 8.1 Home to Windows 10 Home. I’ll be installing Windows 10 cleanly and backing up my data, including multiple users. I have a 1 TB external drive which should cover the space needs. My main concerns are: 1. How can I back up all my files—especially across different users? 2. Will Steam and Origin allow me to re-download purchased games and their content? 3. Are there additional tips for backing up and installing Windows 8.1 before moving to Windows 10? Any step-by-step guides would be helpful. Thanks!

Windows will create an old folder containing your previous data. Alternatively, simply use a hard drive and store everything you're concerned about there. 2. Programs, games, and applications that are already installed will function after a clean install; obtain the necessary installers for the desired software or re-download them. For Steam, it's advisable to back up your games if you don't wish to re-download them. 3. Just search online or watch videos to gather general advice from others.

You can re-download the games you’ve already paid for, and your game data will be preserved.

There could be a backup tool included with your external storage, worth investigating.
The main advantage of using key-based accounts for Steam and Origin is that you can set them up simply with just your password.
You must first ensure you're running Windows 10 in its standard mode (not a clean install) to activate your keys. After that, you can proceed with a fresh installation.
For advice and shortcuts, search online—there are many guides available. For example:
- https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comme...nd_tricks/
I applied most of those suggestions and am quite satisfied with my Windows 10 setup.

Yes, your data from those games will be stored via Steam or Origin. When you re-download, you should see all your saved content again.

Make sure you’re logged into your account with all the games installed; that way, you can re-download any title you own. Steam keeps your save files on their servers, so you don’t have to worry about losing them.

These multiplayer titles such as Battlefield, CSGO skins, and GTA are available, though Skyrim is best played locally. Transferring a single 1TB external drive will easily resolve the issue.

It's a good idea to regularly back up your bigger games like GTA and Skyrim using Steam. This will let you restore them quickly without needing to download everything again.

Your computer is operating smoothly.
The reason for a clean installation is to ensure a fresh start, which can resolve lingering issues or outdated settings. If you've already done a clean install, it's not necessary unless you're experiencing persistent problems. For the best results, upgrade your PC first and then perform a fresh installation to verify everything is set correctly. The optimal approach is to upgrade before installing Windows 10.
