Hello All, I recently acquired an old Windows 2000 machine with an ASUS CUSL2-C Black Pearl motherboard that’s performing poorly.
I’m considering overclocking the CPU but need to know its maximum limits before risking damage, though I don’t have the exact model number.
The only details I have are “x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 10 GenuineIntel ~501 Mhz.”
My search didn’t turn up anything specific—no Core 2 Duo identification and no BIOS or device manager results.
Any suggestions on what the system might be?

Half decent would be a good description, something that opens smoothly without stuttering.

Regarding the computer, I would initially think about the power supply unit. It might be that the PSU is aging and approaching its end of life, which could cause it to slow down or stop under heavy use.

Use CPU-Z to determine your CPU model.
The Asus CUSL2-C is a Socket 370 Pentium 3 board, predating the Core 2 Duo and even the Pentium 4.
Here’s a list of supported CPUs.
Intel legacy Celeron 500MHz might be what you have.

I need to explore my bit box to check for any faster components. It should cover the 80386SX and 80486DX models. There are also very old options like the 8086 and 6502. I should look on eBay for the best available chip. A Celeron 950, 1000 or 1100 could boost performance, though they might be hard to find at a reasonable price. Perhaps a P3 would be worth considering? It's worth checking what's currently available.
