I understand what I’m about to outline will be a significant disappointment for all computer systems and their owners, but alright.
1. The exclusive Dell motherboard won't fit in a standard ATX case.
2. The exclusive Dell PSU connections restrict your choices significantly. In fact, very few options remain.
You might be able to locate a fully functional used system that performs better than your old Dell, but at a lower cost than expected.
I was assuming that would be the case.
This is not necessarily true for my unit, it seems to use the standard 24 pin and 4 pin connectors on the board so at least I could upgrade that.
I just don't know where to put the graphics card as there is absolutely zero room left in this case. I might just leave the side panel off and have the card sitting on the outside.
The ideal scenario for that horror show is the large round one that you throw all your trash into! On a more serious note, I believe the 745 is a BTX form factor motherboard and might also use a custom power connector, meaning case and PSU compatibility could become an issue...
If you're comfortable with my question, what purpose does this old machine serve for you? Regarding the budget, what level of change in case updates are you considering? Are you looking at the US market?
A $100 investment in a Dell or HP workstation from Intel 4th generation would result in a significant performance improvement.
