I'm not as familiar with tech as most here, so I thought I could get a more practical answer. You have an i7 8700k with an RTX 3070, and your CPU is nearly seven years old. I know it's still powerful for gaming at 1440p, but I was thinking about upgrading to DDR5 and getting into the future. I want to avoid bottlenecks and have a CPU that lasts another seven years. Your budget for the CPU is around $350.

You're looking at a reasonable setup with a good CPU, but you'll need a motherboard and RAM too. The power supply should match your wattage requirements. With a budget of around $600 to $650, you can find a solid configuration. Your current components—Ryzen 7800X3D, Gigabyte B650, and the specified GPUs—are solid choices.

I’m not concerned about the motherboard and RAM limits right now. My plan is to purchase the CPU first because there are many discounts available, and I aim to get the motherboard by the end of November. Regarding the CPU, I’ve noticed the 7800X3D on Amazon lately—seems to be in good deals everywhere I look when searching for top gaming CPUs. However, some reports mention it runs a bit slower for non-gaming tasks, so it might not be the fastest option for general use. Compared to the i7-13700K or KF and the i5-13600K, it offers a solid balance but isn’t the absolute leader in performance.

It's an 8-core/16-thread processor ideal for general tasks, slightly less fast than the 7700X at clock speeds. Unless you require a CPU for heavy work, it handles editing and streaming just fine.

I’m considering the 7800x3d model. For a max of 250$, you might want to look at around 200-300 MBs. The GB650 seems appealing, but exploring more options would help. Yes, ASUS MBS are indeed popular right now, and white models are available within your budget.

ASUS resolved their problems with the 7800X3D, making it easier to mention. I prefer Gigabyte, so I’d check out the B650 AORUS Elite AX and Pro AX. The Pro AX really impresses me with its VRM and build quality. At this stage, I don’t need Gen 5 components, and I won’t in the future since SATA SSDs are already quite fast. MSI also builds solid boards, according to what I hear. But I haven’t used any of them yet.
