Need assistance! I'm trying to start my Mac using a USB drive.
I created a USB for Mac Sierra and added a new SSD. I’m upgrading from a 1TB to a 4TB drive. When I try to install it, I only see the USB port and not the larger drive. What should I do?
It’s possible your Mac isn’t detecting the new SSD since it requires formatting. Is it currently set to Mac OS Extended (Journaled)?
Access the disk utility to format the newly installed 4TB drive. A drop-down menu should appear in the upper-left setup area. If not visible, ensure the correct location is selected.
The installer lists all bootable Mac partitions it can detect. Your new SSD could be empty or might already have a Windows partition, which is why it isn't visible. Launch Disk Utility via the menu bar, set the drive to a GUID Partition Map and create at least one Mac partition. Close Disk Utility and your new partition should appear when you run the installer again.
