I assembled my PC four years back and upgraded a few parts afterward. My setup included: CPU – Athlon X4 845 @ 3.9 GHz, Motherboard – Gigabyte GA-F2A88X-D3H, GPU – HD 7870 @ 1185 GHz, RAM – Corsair Vengance DDR3 16GB, PSU – Corsair CX650M, plus a Sandisk SSD and a standard HDD.
I used to play games like Battlefield 3 and 4 or some MMORPGs at 1920x1200 resolution, achieving around 50-60 FPS. I upgraded to a 1440p monitor expecting smoother performance, but found it still lagged at about 30 FPS. Even at lower resolutions like 800x600, the frame rate remained poor. I suspected the CPU might be limiting things, but after some research, I discovered that even with an X4 845 paired with an RX 460, smooth 1080p performance was possible. Now I’m unsure what to do and need advice. Thanks ahead.
I never intended to sound unkind, but it does seem quite arbitrary.
That’s a solid question. I aimed for extra space for regular tasks and added an IPS panel since my old TN screen was really bothersome. I chose a monitor with a higher resolution rather than focusing on gaming performance. As I mentioned, everything works best when you set it to its lowest possible configuration across all resolutions.
