Hey there, so my PC has been built for three years now. Suddenly it started having big issues. At first, it would boot from one of my hard drives instead of the SSD. The drive I was using didn’t even have Windows 10 installed. I discovered that the SSD had been damaged a few years ago—ADATA had replaced it on the chip. I changed the CMOS settings, switched BIOS to CSMOS and RAID, but nothing fixed it. When I tried recovery mode with Windows CMD, the ADATA would show up but the PC wouldn’t boot. The BIOS still listed it there, but no boot manager appeared.

Later, I moved my Intel M.2 from my laptop (which had Windows 10) onto the B450 board, but it didn’t work. A week later, I swapped in the ADATA drive with the one from my laptop. It booted up once, and the SSD actually worked in Task Manager. Now it just won’t get any video signal—only the keyboard and PC turn on. The BIOS diagnostic lights say everything’s in the right order, but there’s no signal at all.

I cleaned the GPU with alcohol, but it still didn’t help. I removed all USB devices once to see if that would make a difference, but it didn’t. It’s frustrating, and I’m not sure what’s causing this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

SSDs are now very affordable, just purchase a new 1TB drive for around $40 and perform a full installation. Install the new drive directly on your PC, leaving all other drives disconnected. After Windows is set up on the new drive, completely erase the previous drives to avoid bootloader conflicts. This approach simplifies things and prevents complications.

Switch away from the SSD and opt for a fresh one. If you intend to run it as an operating system, choose something with a solid DRAM cache because the system constantly reads and writes data. Adding DRAM will significantly cut down on flash wear and boost performance. I believe a 970 EVO Plus is the most reliable choice. There are also great discounts on Sabrent drives available on amazon.com.

You recently purchased a brand new M.2 from Micro Center, but it hasn't worked as expected.

Doing the unexpected with various gadgets is happening without clear alerts... Need a backup motherboard? I don’t see any obvious options.

This often occurs when the bootloader for your Windows ends up on the HDD rather than the SSD. It can happen during installation when more than one drive is connected to the PC.
