Hi, I see you're experiencing occasional freezes on your Alienware 17 R4 during games. It sounds like the issue might be related to performance under stress or overclocking. When you run stress tests, it doesn't occur, suggesting the problem isn't consistent. Overclocking seems to make things worse—possibly due to voltage or stability concerns. You might want to check your power supply, thermal management, and consider monitoring temperatures closely. Let me know if you need more specific advice!
Consider two points of interest. What memory capacity is currently installed? Insufficient RAM can lead to performance drops. How much VRAM does the GPU contain? Surpassing this memory threshold often results in stutters. What are the temperatures during gaming sessions on both the CPU and GPU? If either or both become too hot, clocks slow down until temperatures stabilize. This can trigger stutters.
I agree with MartinKweh, but I think it might be due to some driver issues. You could try reinstalling the drivers, lowering your GPU's clock speed, or boosting its power limit. Also consider adjusting memory timings or slightly increasing the voltage if you can. I hope this helps.
You're welcome. With 32 GB of RAM and a GTX 1080, you should have plenty of headroom. To lower memory timings, consider adjusting your BIOS settings or using memory tuning tools like MemTest86 or GPU-Z. Make sure your system is properly configured for optimal performance. Let me know if you need more details!
I’m dealing with a support issue in HWiNFO64 that’s displaying voltage warnings. I experience stuttering occasionally, but it can become severe enough to cause crashes to black and restart (BF1 & 5). Rebooting doesn’t seem to help. I’m certain something is amiss since day one of using the laptop. Previously, I ran Destiny 2 at 4K ultra detail smoothly. Recently, it crashes with a “Baboon” error (loss of hardware/device). My motherboard was replaced and the heatsink was upgraded by Dell in May/June this year. I still have premium support until November 2021. My system specs are: 17 R4 i7 7820HK, 1080 GTX 400, 4K display, 32GB Corsair Vengeance 2666MHz, 128GB NVMe SSD, OS 1TB, 7200 SATA, plus 2TB M.2 Seagate Firecuda 510 (games) and 1535 wireless. It uses a 330W power brick. Have you had any success? I’ll share what they find here, but it seems the VRMs are overheating, possibly causing power issues, even though temperatures stay within limits and there’s no thermal throttling logs.
