The issue isn't with the board itself, but how the cooler connects to the CPU. I've experienced this often with my AM4 projects over the past couple of years. Usually you simply pull straight up on the cooler, letting the CPU follow naturally, but some people suggest a slight twist if possible while pulling. This tends to fix the problem and keep the CPU stable. The best approach is to avoid bending pins altogether—be mindful of how much you twist and pull at once!
Occasionally it's better not to separate everything at once—just remove it all at once. The older Opteron coolers with flat surfaces rather than pipe contact with the CPU are the worst. Pipes often create a crease for air, reducing vacuum efficiency, though thicker TIMs can still cause issues. Any movement usually doesn't help since the TIM moves with the motion, preventing proper airflow. If the TIM is old, it tends to harden and won't flow like fresh TIM, sticking instead of spreading. This makes removal much easier, but some older TIMs can be stubborn, almost like glue or concrete. If that happens, the only solution is to fully remove the cooler.
Same issue occurred last weekend. I tested various methods—hair dryer, dental floss, sharp blade, boiling water, isopropyl alcohol—but nothing resolved it. Eventually, I placed the radiator with the CPU in the oven at 200°C for 10 minutes. After applying slight pressure on the CPU PCB, it detached. The CPU booted normally and ran idle at 35°C.
