So most of my friends still have old gaming systems like the PS3 and Xbox 360. I kept trying to persuade them to move to PC, but now they’re leaning toward the PS4 and some newer, less reliable consoles. I really need help getting them to switch to PC before they spend money on something they might not enjoy. They often want to mod, so I tell them if they’re serious about it, they should get a PC. But there are rumors that the new consoles are actually better—though I’m not sure. Maybe I should suggest they try Steambox once it launches, which could be a good idea. They keep complaining because they want to play online together and try to convince me to buy them more consoles. I’m determined not to become a pea-sentient robot, and now they’ve given up on that plan.

It's best not to push individuals onto a service they're uncomfortable with.

Sure. Perhaps OP could simply display some amusing modifications instead of pushing them to use PC by emphasizing that PC has mods and graphics.

They constantly express their desire for modifications, insisting only PC can handle them. I remind them that genuine modding requires a PC and these tools. They don’t seem to grasp the point. Should I guide them toward SteamOS or abandon this approach?

You might consider displaying side-by-side comparison clips of the graphics on consoles versus PCs for the titles they’re interested in. Highlighting the extensive modding community around games like Skyrim on PC could also be helpful. Keep in mind the recommendation leans toward high-end gaming PCs, which are typically pricier than consoles, so remember to include that cost factor—though I’m sure PCs often offer better value for game purchases.
