Need assistance choosing the right PSU upgrade?
I recently acquired a brand new RTX 4070 but discovered my PCI-E power cables were missing (they were in a box but I moved twice and they vanished). My current PSU is an Antec 750 high-capacity gamer unit (I can’t see the exact model and don’t want to completely dismantle my build to reach it). I searched online for replacement cables, but from forum discussions it seems risky to purchase new ones even if they’re from the same brand.
My budget is limited after this expense, so I’ll share the options I found nearby (South America). Any advice on which models have known issues would be helpful.
I checked PSU Cultist but couldn’t locate all these models.
Here are some options I found:
- MSI MAG A850GL PCIE5 80+ GOLD
- ANTEC NEOECO M SERIES 80+ GOLD
- ANTEC SF850X EC 850
- FSP HYDRO G PRO ATX3.0 850
- FSP VITA GM 850 GOLD
- SUPER FLOWER SF-850F14MP LEADEX 80+ PLATINUM
- DEEPCOOL R-PN850M-FCOB-EU
- COOLERMASTER V850 SFX GOLD
- CORSAIR RM850X SHIFT
Great, and between those 3 which would you consider the best quality?
The MSI is quite loud! The Super Flower offers excellent quality but isn't ATX3.x and lacks a 12VHPWR cable. You'll need the adapter that comes with the GPU, which isn't advised. The Corsair Shift works with some cases but not all. Both FSP units are also suitable, providing good quality and ATX3.x compatibility. You mentioned some SFX units as well—could you share your motherboard and case?
Due to the short cables, an SFX PSU isn't suitable here. The Shift also doesn't work because the case has a plate on the modular side of the PSU. For the best option, choose one of the FSP units. If you want modularity, purchase the Hydro G Pro; otherwise, the Vita is a good and quieter alternative.
