I’ve been attempting games like BO6 and STALKER 2, but my FPS fluctuates a lot. I’m not sure if the issue lies with the GPU or CPU. I’m currently at 1440p and don’t see any improvement when switching to 1080p. I just bought the 4060ti, but I’m considering returning it to get a RX 7800 XT. I’m unsure if that would solve the problem or if my CPU is finally slowing down. My setup includes an Intel i5 9600k overclocked at 5GHz, a MSI Z370 gaming board, 32GB of 3200MHz DDR4 RAM, and the RTX 4060ti with 8GB.

In contemporary titles such as STALKER 2 the 9600k will face challenges versus newer processors, particularly during low frame rates and stutters. This chip has been in use for six years and essentially upgraded from a 6700k at 14nm++ to a 7700x. Upgrading from a 9900k @5.2ghz gave noticeable improvements in maximum FPS, but frame rates dropped significantly at 1% and 0.1% lows when paired with an RTX 4080.

Upgrading from a 4060ti to a 5700x or x3D would definitely boost performance significantly.

This model offers a solid performance boost compared to the 9600k. The additional cores and threads on the 5700X3D are likely to shine in demanding CPU-intensive games. While the improvement might be modest in some titles, it can significantly raise framerate in others—especially with a more powerful GPU. Whether it’s worth upgrading depends on your needs. Check it out; it runs smoothly with a 3080 Ti GPU. Pay attention to the green and blue values next to D3D12 in the top left. Many games see a noticeable jump in average frame rate with this configuration.

Wow, the difference is clear! Even in games where averages aren’t drastically varied, the top 1% and 0.1% remain notably higher! Thanks a lot for your insight!

It makes a big difference in certain games, especially when it comes to stutter and low frame rates. If you're thinking about upgrading your GPU later, you'll find a powerful enough CPU to match it.

It seems your GPU is handling most of the work, but if you're not hitting 90% or more usage and you're not using frame limits or V-sync, the CPU might be the real bottleneck. Watch this video to learn how to identify CPU constraints.
