Need advice on removing or updating RAM?
Hey everyone, good to see you all. Should I turn off DOCP before swapping the 3000MHZ RAM for 3200MHZ sticks, or should I just swap the existing ones and update the BIOS settings before turning on the system? I’ve already removed the sticks without using DOCP profiles (XMP), so I’m wondering if it’s safe to go with faster speeds or better back to the standard RAM speed profile—non-overclocked. This is for another machine, not my setup. I have an ASUS ROG STRIX B450-F with a Ryzen 5 2600 and stock Wraith Stealth cooler, 16GB (two 8GB) Corsair Vengeance 3000MHZ DDR4. I’m considering swapping to 16GB with Crucial Ballistix 3200MHZ RAM.
I believe the BIOS will acknowledge the addition of new RAM and reinitialize its configuration. To confirm, I’d turn off DOCP before taking out the old modules. Otherwise, it could fail to boot and you’d need to reset CMOS to return to the BIOS with the updated RAM.
