MusicBee, foobar2000, MediaMonkey supports music. VLC and Media Player Classic handle videos.

I use Media Player Classic with the K-lite codec suite included. It’s a comprehensive set of codecs suitable for most users. Personally, I have trouble with some subtitles—particularly anime—which is why I don’t rely on it much. Otherwise, it performs well in general. I’m not sure if it handles certain games that require specific video or cutscene codecs, but I haven’t tested it yet.
