I recently purchased an MSi B365M PRO-VH Micro ATX board. I have a GTX 960 and am considering moving to a 970. I’m looking for a CPU that’s reasonably priced and won’t limit the GPU performance. Any recommendations would be very helpful.

If you can't bring it back, opt for a locked i7-8700 and consider stopping. It delivers strong performance for gaming and works with the b365.

It seems unclear why you'd purchase a motherboard without considering the CPU. A 9600k MHz processor is suitable, but compatibility matters for optimal performance.
